Onwards and Upwards
To stay on track I tell myself these things
- The most important person in life is the one you love, the one who shares life with you. Treat them as such.
- People I assumed would be there for me were not - that's ok, just don't be disappointed because others pop up.
- In the blink of an eye children and grandchildren grow up. Nurture these relationships because the pleasure of having close relationships with them as adults is second to none.
- Staying connected matters.
- Sharing mundane stuff - it's what gets remembered and cherished once people are gone forever.
- I don't know if my life will be long or short. It doesn't matter really just eat well, drink well, stay fit, strong and moving.
- If I know what I want, when I want it and how to get there, things always happen.
- When illness strikes we only regret what we didn't do, not what we did.
- Stuff and belongings mean nothing once someone's gone so don't hoard the crap. Moments, memories and experiences mean everything so hold onto them forever.
- I go for a walk or a run if I get overwhelmed. The beautiful trees, flowers, birds suddenly look magical. Then smile and people tend to smile back.
- In my darkest, most hopeless hours there was always been something slightly ridiculous happening. focus on those things.
- I sort myself out and make my own decisions - it doesn't matter what others think or do.
- I don't want to wake up one morning age 70 and realise I haven't done the things I wanted to do.
- Employment is about is income not ego to me. It enables me to do things I enjoy.
- Financial discipline matters to me no matter how much or little money I have
