Chester Grosvenor Hotel

Is it possible to go back to a favourite place from the past and create new memories?

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas for me without an annual shopping trip to Chester. It's a tradition we followed  for many years. We always booked into The Grosvenor Hotel Chester for a few days and did all our Christmas shopping in one hit. We came home with everything wrapped and ready to go straight under the tree.  Chester has everything we enjoy. Beautiful Christmas decorations. a Christmas Market, a great range of town centre shops. fantastic restaurants and events in the Chester Cathedral  There's  also an outlet village and lots of peaceful walks nearby too.

The challenge was always going to be how to change what 'we enjoyed' as a couple  into what 'I enjoy' solo. I try not to make myself sad about how things were. The problem with grief is that sadness intrudes suddenly and unexpectedly. But if I don't try going back and doing the things I used to enjoy I'll never know if I can, Chester as a City has everything I love so it makes sense to get Christmas preparations done in one hit in a place that means a lot to me.

I'm delighted that Chester at Christmas remains magical to me. The Christmas Market, Cathedral, Lantern Parade and of course the beautiful Chester Grosvenor Hotel.  The bedrooms, service, restaurants and bars are all exceptional. The general atmosphere and  decor brings back so many lovely memories as does Sergio's an Italian restaurant close by. This year I went for the third Christmas with a very dear friend, we walked the Chester walls. Suddenly whilst wandering around the churchyard I realised how despite everything, I'm  now totally happy and settled with this new chapter of my life.
