Things certainly move on. I often think whatever next ?

AI is certainly making the world think again. 

Many years ago  (even before I was born)  human beings,  turned natural survival skills into formal professions, systems, and institutions. 

Basic acts like speaking, counting, and cooking evolved into structured careers, with strict rules, and beliefs.  

Skills evolved into careers. 

• Early orators turned talking publicly into a craft. They set and promoted rules to align with their personal preference as to how people should speak and persuade and do it properly .
• Scribes and authors turned basic symbols and records into a paid profession. They created and imposed a set of  standards for grammar and storytelling. 
• Early traders and mathematicians spotted patterns that  led the way to accounting and finance careers.
• Preparing food moved on from foraging and survival into professional culinary arts and hospitality 
• The cave paintings and basic marks were spotted and this form of communication expanded  into fine art, design, and commercial illustration.
• Making clothes for warmth and modesty stated off a global fashion and tailoring industry
• Healers, shamans and local do gooders  turned basic care into modern medicine, big pharma and  healthcare careers. 
• The Elders  who solved the arguments became judges, lawyers, and mediators within formal legal systems. 
• The orators and teachers gradually  added rules, aims, and standards to every  natural skills in existence. They built schools, colleges and universities to spread knowledge, skills, attitudes and beliefs far and wide.
• Early human thoughts  and beliefs were turned into structured religion with fixed dogmas and leaders stating how ‘their interpretation ‘ was the correct way.

For thousands of years, humans turned  their survival skills into professions, professions became institutions, and institutions led to  industries.

The self imposed  leaders added rules, qualifications, hierarchies and gatekeepers — and in doing so created jobs, businesses, wealth and entire economies. This was great for the world and even better  for them. 

To me I hope  AI will be the beginning of a  shift. Knowledge & skills that became increasingly specialised, expensive and controlled are becoming accessible to almost anyone. Very few digital skills are needed to access information these days, even very small children easily master how to use a phone or other electronic device .  

I reckon  human skill, judgement and creativity will remain forever after all it created AI.  I predict   some of the complexity and “bossiness” built around life as it is now  will  disappear.  As a person who’s a bit of a free spirit this pleases me. 

AI’s biggest disruption isn’t simply that machines can take over and impose more on us . The disruption and angst is that it makes us realise how basic skills have been turned into complicated professions and systems over the years. 

Opponents are those who will  lose out,  they will of course make those who will gain to level the field very fearful.  

Do skills and professions need to remain shrouded in mystery, do they need to  complicated and expensive to access?  Of course not . 

Over thousands of years  simple skills have became  economic machines.  

Humans can and always have done wicked destructive acts but most humans are fundamentally good. The same is with AI .

AI is certainly making the world think again.
